Function of the pancreas
It secretes digestive enzymes that digest food throughout the day and produces hormones that regulate blood sugar levels, such as insulin and glucagon.
Symptoms of pancreatic damage 1. Nausea, diarrhea
- The pancreas produces enzymes that help break down fat
- Therefore, if there is a problem with the pancreas, the body's ability to digest fat decreases.
- As a result, nausea occurs, and undigested/unabsorbed fat is excreted in the stool, causing diarrhea.
- Stool becomes lighter in color and less dense
- Oil stains appear to be floating in the toilet water due to undigested fat content.
If you feel nausea like never before after eating fatty fast food or meat, you should be careful. Especially if you suffer from diabetes, you should check your pancreas health at least once.
Symptoms of pancreatic damage 2. Abdominal pain and back pain
- Abdominal pain is a common symptom of pancreatic cancer
- Pain in the back along with abdominal pain because the pancreas is located close to the back.
- If it is accompanied by abdominal pain, back pain, indigestion, loss of appetite, decreased food intake due to pain, or weight loss, it is pancreatic cancer.
Pain caused by pancreatic cancer, such as reflux esophagitis or other problems, can easily be mistaken for reflux or other gastrointestinal disorders. However, if the pain is sudden, intense, and centered in the abdomen, it is likely pancreatitis.
Symptoms of pancreatic damage 3. Weight Loss
- Weight loss due to loss of appetite and decreased food intake due to pain
- Loss of more than 5% of usual body weight over 6 months or weight loss of approximately 4.5 kg regardless of period
Symptoms of pancreatic damage 4. Diabetes onset and worsening
- Diabetes is both a cause and a consequence of pancreatic cancer.
- If diabetes suddenly develops without a family history, pancreatic cancer is suspected.
Pancreatic cancer can cause well-controlled diabetes to worsen. As the disease progresses, 90% of patients with chronic pancreatitis develop diabetes.
